I have been making furniture for 17 years, first in Taos, New Mexico and now in Port Townsend, Washington. During that time my work has evolved to be more organic both in design and technique. Forms in nature have always been my primary inspiration. I admire the simplicity and economy of the natural world where each material shows its full range of possibilities.

I am drawn to natural forms because they are not static: they grow, spring, flow, balance, fracture and erode. Each of my designs starts with the idea of such a motion, in addition to the function of the piece of furniture. In my furniture I emphasize structure over ornamentation, and dramatic transitions instead of exposed joinery.

To refine my designs, I sketch, make scale models and full size patterns of important parts. I choose woods that complement the design of the piece and the room for which it is made. Since nature is my inspiration, I try my best to care for it by using sustainably harvested woods. Many of the details of my furniture do not show up in photos: textures, edges and curves that are meant to be touched more than seen. I want my furniture to be fun to touch, sit in, eat off and live with for many generations.

"My works are made using sewn-together pieces of lace soaked in porcelain and then worked into shape. During the firing process the lace is burnt off leaving behind an imprint in the porcelain that reveals its presence through the fullness and emptiness of the shape, its fluidity, and through its inner texture disclosed in transparency. The light plays with the translucent quality of the porcelain and divulges the heart of the material, showing another dimension to the work.

Like ghosts, the former doilies, collars, bed spreads or table runners, reshaped and reworked, haunt every piece. This ladies' feminine handiwork, proudly and patiently embroidered, still bears the fingerprint and the sheer determination of their creators and is now given a new life in a new form. It is a testimony to the know-how, the traditions, and the personal histories of women who used these simple and precise skills, generation after generation, making each thread of cotton unique and their own.

Through plant inspired shapes, the cotton returns to its roots. Plant fibers and textile fibers blend into inner fibers, sensory organs, canvases of emotion. From its origins as lace, each piece of work builds its own identity. Fruits, flowers, seeds, nests and eggs abound in an ice garden. The plant world is also present in the stoneware creating a mineral garden."

update (5/26/07) If you click on the picture it will take you to the site where I found these. However, it is in a language that I do not recognize. I do not know the story behind these shoes. I think the only place you could wear these would be a freak show or and erotica event or perhaps if you were some sort of bird for Halloween. They are super crazy and probably were someone's art installation.
