No Contact Jacket

The No-Contact Jacket is a wearable defensive jacket created to aid women in their struggle for protection from violence. When activated
by the wearer, 80,000 volts of low amperage electric current pulses just below the surface shell of the entire jacket. This exo-electric armor prevents any person from unauthorized contact with the wearer's body. If an assailant were to grab hold of the wearer the high voltage exterior would interrupt their neurological impulses which control voluntary muscle movement. The neuromuscular system would be overwhelmed causing disorientation and loss of balance to occur and of course pain. The pain experienced is non-lethal but is enough to effectively and immediately deter contact with the wearer and provide a critical life saving opportunity for escape.

Spore Pendant Light

Chihiro Tanaka (1980), the recipient of numerous awards including the Special Prize in the Japan Italy Fashion Design Contest in 2001, entitles his installation, Spore. Based on the reproductive aspect of spores, Tanaka's lights operate as a form of a spore case with the ability to challenge and bring to life a material that on the surface looks hard, but is actually malleable for holding the form like a floating jellyfish in the air. Just as spores create new life, Tanaka's works act as living organisms allowing for the creation of new atmospheres and visions.

Wooden Clock

"We wanted to express the idea of "feeling the time", not "measuring the time".
It can be shown from revolving slowly on its own axis once every hour with an ambiguous change in its inclination.
And we used the preciseness of a Japanese craftsman technique to make this delicate shape to revolve smoothly."

Butterfly Light

"This light came from the idea of folding a piece of paper. The function of its adjustment of light and the space created by that are a result of simple action of one surface (the panel) being divided by two. The two panels with slight shifts to each other at its closed position remind a user to open this object up. This light gives the poetic theme to the space like a butterfly flying around with silence."
